Yummy Fabrics

Alyssa at Pile o Fabric hosts a giveaway every Friday with many great sponsors!

A couple of weeks ago I received one of those lovely emails with the subject heading 'Winner'! I had won the Kiwi Berry Blogger Bundle sponsored by Jackie at Canton Village Quilt Works.

I spent most of yesterday trying to sort out the year's taxes, {yawn, sigh}! So when I returned home to find this little bundle in my mail box, it really did make my day. They are just so gorgeous!!

Any quilt I make with these really is going to pop! I have patterns going around my head but I really must finish off the quilts that are half finished before jumping into the next, or do I … ;)

Thank you Jackie and Alyssa!

Sew Happy {Finish}

I watched all the Spell It With Moda block postings, loving what I saw, but not really wanting to make the alphabet quilt.

Then I saw the Punctuation post by Gina Martin and I was so taken with the cushion she made! I just had to make myself one!

Like Gina, I reduced the pattern sizes by 50% and this meant my Simply Colour Charm Pack would work, I wanted a good range of colours. I had been holding on to it just waiting for something fun to make with it. And this was just perfect.

First up some letters. These were really fun to make, although a some were a bit fiddly due to being half the size.

Then a smiley face!

And then the whole phrase.

I really liked the way Gina used the punctuation on the back for those times when nothing else will do!

It ended up around 16 x 29 inches. My daughter suggested I make it into a hanging for my sewing room wall, I was tempted. But we have very few pillows so decided to stick with my plan. Because of the unusual size I had to make my own pillow insert, which I might have overstuffed!

I used some Kona Marine for the binding. And I love it, it makes me sew happy :)

Happy sewing :)

A very pink cushion ** Finish **

Nearly a month ago now my brother's second baby girl arrived, a few weeks early but all well thankfully.

After the birth of their first little girl, 2 years ago, I made this cushion for her.

I went through my patterns but couldn't find one I wanted to use. So, I took the baby's name, Brooke, and made it the focus. I pulled out some fabrics to piece the backing and some pretty batiks for a variety of appliqué features.

Using a perle thread I quilted around the appliqué features and in the borders.

It did turn out a bit pinker than I had anticipated! I hope she will be a pink girl!
