Sew Happy {Finish}

I watched all the Spell It With Moda block postings, loving what I saw, but not really wanting to make the alphabet quilt.

Then I saw the Punctuation post by Gina Martin and I was so taken with the cushion she made! I just had to make myself one!

Like Gina, I reduced the pattern sizes by 50% and this meant my Simply Colour Charm Pack would work, I wanted a good range of colours. I had been holding on to it just waiting for something fun to make with it. And this was just perfect.

First up some letters. These were really fun to make, although a some were a bit fiddly due to being half the size.

Then a smiley face!

And then the whole phrase.

I really liked the way Gina used the punctuation on the back for those times when nothing else will do!

It ended up around 16 x 29 inches. My daughter suggested I make it into a hanging for my sewing room wall, I was tempted. But we have very few pillows so decided to stick with my plan. Because of the unusual size I had to make my own pillow insert, which I might have overstuffed!

I used some Kona Marine for the binding. And I love it, it makes me sew happy :)

Happy sewing :)

  1. That is an awesome pillow!! Great job and a wonderful reminder that sometimes, reducing the pattern will make a project work better for you. LOVE the punctuation use for the backing! Too cute!

  4. Absolutely wonderful. You can't overstuff a pillow, you've just made it even cuddlier (is that a word?)

  5. Those cushions are wonderful! I agree with the alphabet not being very interesting, but those punctuations .... a quilt with emoticons for a teenager ......

  6. I love the cushion you created! I am wondering if the idea might translate to a sewing machine cover??? Hmmm...
