Halloween bags

I have had this fabric for quite some time and have planned each year to make the kids some trick-or-treat bags rather than using the broken plastic tubs they have carried around for the last 4 years!  Actually, I think the plastic tubs got thrown away in our recent move where we were quite ruthless! So it's a good job I finally made these.

I found a pattern here that pretty much met my needs and roughly copied it!

I started with a small appliqué pattern that I drew onto freezer paper and then sewed onto the background fabric using a zig zag stitch.

A friendly ghost!

A witches hat
Believe it or not the fabric is the same midnight Kona in both pictures! Nighttime lighting isn't good for taking pictures! I added a name to one but decided it might not be cool for the boy to have his name on it, so went with 'boo' instead! Much more him!

The fronts

I found some silver, sparkly, rik rak in my stash, just perfect for a little girl. They sew up really quick and had pretty much completed the two in a single evening. Amazing what one can achieve when ones mind is set and there's time!

I used fusible fleece but still decided to do a small amount of quilting on the back, spiders web, to go with the spiders!

Here are the two bags. The kids approved of them too!

Since this has been on my to do list for many years, and was on my #FAL Q4 list, it feels good to finally complete it! Perhaps this will be a productive quarter!
I just discovered I forgot to link up my goals post with the ladies running the FAL, but I shall continue to try and finish some of my WIPs before the year is out.

Finish Along - Q4

Well I did not do so well last month. I didn't finish anything on my list and I don't think I made much progress on any of my WIPs! My list is pretty much the same as last quarter, although there might be a few more on it!!

1. Double 9 patch quilt - still needs quilting

2. Dr Who - No progress

3. Bright flower patch quilt - no progress

4. Simply colourful - no progress

5. Camp blankets - no progress

6. V and Co Ombre - some progress. I made a few more blocks

7. Beeutiful QAL - a couple more blocks were made

8. Tula Pink City Sample - I joined the madness of the 100days100blocks quilt along! We are currently about 55 days in. It can be quite tricky trying to sew and post a block a day but so far so good. Here are the first 35 blocks.

9. Halloween Bags - I have the pattern bookmarked here and some purple halloween fabrics.

10. Princess Leia - apparently I have to create a halloween costume for our youngest child! I have a white sheet that should work and I'm sure I can find some silver fabric for a fancy belt.
