Wide open zippered pouch for knitting projects

I am currently knitting a pair of socks as a test knit for some local designers, Knox Mountain Knits. I love their patterns and this one is no exception. Until now most of their patterns have been hats, mitts or shawls. These things don't often take me too long to knit. But these socks have been more time consuming for me and have been taking me away from the sewing machine a little. Although I have enjoyed evenings of sofa time knitting after a busy day.

 

The other day, however, I wanted to sew and I wanted a quick project. So I decided to make a new knitting pouch to put the sock project in. These socks have attended swimming lessons, soccer games, strings concerts and just waiting in the car! So I know a new pouch will get well used.

I have had some cork fabric sitting around for a while and it was telling me to use it. I used the tutorial by Stitchmischief, which is really easy to follow. 

I also chose to use some of my stashed Blueberry Park fabric too. They really shouldn't just sit on my shelf forever more! It turned out better than I expected and only took me 1 day to make! The perfect project. 

With plenty of room for a sock knitting project! 

And I just had to celebrate the completion with a short time out in the sunshine on the deck with a cup of tea, cos it wasn't really as warm as it looked!

Boxy Pouch {Finish}

I made a boxy pouch! I usually avoid zippers as I think they will be tricky. But I have a need for a pouch so thought I would give it a go.

I found a tutorial for a boxy pouch here by Pink Stitches.

I want to use the pouch for toiletries so decided to use some of the babyville boutique PUL fabric I have had sitting around for a while. This was probably not the best fabric to choose for the first try at the pouch! But hey, I like a challenge. 

I managed to do it, with quite a large amount of unpicking and fiddling! The PUL fabric moves too much when sewing. But at least that's hidden on the inside. 

Boxy Pouch

I practiced some FMQ on the outside. I did loops and hearts to make the stripes a little more feminine than their are. This is a pouch for my big girl who is doing some travelling on her own this summer. She likes blue so hopefully this will appeal to her.

I might have to try another one of these pouches but with some more forgiving interior fabrics!

3-ring zipper pouch

Whilst shopping for school supplies recently my daughter showed me a pencil case that attaches to a ring binder saying how her friend found these soooo useful. Translated into "Can I have one please!". 
Having just seen this tutorial here I refused to buy the plain black and red one she was holding, thinking I would make her one instead. Well that was a couple of weeks ago! How time flies!

So last night I pulled out some fabrics I received in a competition a while ago and set to making it. They are such fun colours. It went together quite easily, but I really should learn to read the instructions rather than guess what comes next, especially late in the evening and I am thinking I am nearly done!! I had to rip out some seams and do it again, which at gone 11pm was not a good thing to be doing! 

It had zippers, which I normally avoid! Not sure why as it wasn't as bad as I had expected!

And I added grommets to the side rather than the ties in the tutorial.

Anyway, all finished. And it was well received this morning. Now, how many days until school starts!?!

Phone pouch

Until recently I had an old hand-me-down Blackberry that really had seen better days. It spent more time on charge than me using it. Even so I was quite surprised to unwrap a new white iphone on my birthday.

Trouble is I now feel I have to take much more care of this new phone than I did of my old beaten up Blackberry. So the first thing I did was to pull out some fabric to make a cover for it. 

I used the tutorial by Amy Friend at During Quiet time, found here. And some fabric I fell in love with at the Houston Quilt Festival. I was generous when cutting out the pattern as I have a case on the phone for added protection! It is still rather a tight fit though. But I am pleased with it.

iPhone pouch

One of my new years resolutions was to improve my fitness. There is an app (since there is an app for everything, right?!) that we are using to get back to running 5km easily. The app tells you when to run and when to walk but to keep taking the phone out of this pouch was a bit tiresome. 

So I just had to make a slightly different pouch for when I go out running. I wanted to be able to see the screen whilst the phone was in the pouch.

In the cupboard I had some clear plastic vinyl. So I modified the pattern slightly and produced this little pouch with a strap to put on my wrist to prevent me dropping it!! 

The only thing I regret doing is putting the iron on the vinyl and marking it. But other than that it works just how I wanted it to. So now there is no excuse for keeping up with the fitness plan!!

Now back to completing some of my unfinished projects!
